Carbon Dioxide

Overview of Test

Carbon Dioxide is typically used to estimate bicarbonate levels in blood. Bicarbonate functions as buffering system to maintain acid-base balance in blood. It also is an important electrolyte to help maintain electrical neutrality at cellular level. Both elevated and decreased levels of bicarbonate can be indicative of disease or certain conditions.
