D-Dimer

Overview of Test

D-Dimer is a result of the breakdown of Fibrin during fibrinolysis. The presence of D-Dimer in the blood indicates a recent blood clot that has been degraded. D-Dimer results are used to rule out venous thromboembolism (VTE) including deep vein thrombosis (DVT), and pulmonary embolisms. D-Dimer is also used as a biomarker for certain blood disorders, like disseminated intravascular coagulation.
