Questions about Your RT-PCR Test?

An RT-PCR test is a sensitive test that swiftly reveals the presence of certain pathogens, like bacteria, viruses, and fungi. Genetic material is taken out of the sample, and then a special process of heating and cooling is used to make more of that genetic material grow. A chemical in the test will create fluorescent light if it detects these pathogens.

If you have gastrointestinal issues, your doctor will want to make sure they know what they’re treating in order to recommend the best course of action. An RT-PCR test will give them a clear picture of the health of your gut.

The collection method is non-invasive – in most cases, a swab from a stool sample is sufficient.

Because the RT-PCR test is fast, results will be uploaded and available for your review within 48 hours of our lab receiving the sample.

In most cases, RT-PCR testing is covered. However it is always best to double check with your insurance carrier.

Unsure of What’s Wrong with Your Gut?

Gastrointestinal disease can be caused by many agents, including bacteria, viruses, and parasites. Traditional Culture/Sensitivity testing for bacteria will not detect viruses or parasites, and traditional tests for parasites will not detect the viruses or the bacteria.

Our GI panel is intended for the simultaneous detection and identification of multiple bacteria, viruses, and parasites. This improves patient care by rapidly identifying a broad range of pathogens, reducing the need for other time-consuming diagnostic tests, and limiting unnecessary use of antibiotics.
