Test Panels

Triglyceride

Overview of Test

This assay is intended for the quantitative determination of triglycerides in human serum. Triglycerides are synthesized by esterification of varying chain length fatty acids to glycerol in the liver. Transportation of triglycerides in blood occurs either in association with chylomicrons or, more commonly, as part of VLDL lipoprotein formed in the liver. Fasting triglyceride levels are an important indicator of risk of developing atherosclerosis or coronary artery disease. Determination of triglyceride status can assist in the diagnosis of different hyperlipidemia related diseases, including inherited metabolic abnormalities, diabetes mellitus, pancreatitis, alcoholic liver disease, etc.
