When to order it
- You are working up a suspected acute viral hepatitis and want HAV, HBV and HCV markers from one draw.
- You are adding viral hepatitis serology to liver-focused testing. The Hepatic Panel (HFP) covers albumin, alkaline phosphatase, ALT, AST, total and direct bilirubin and total protein, and the Complete Metabolic Panel (CMP) includes albumin, ALT, AST and creatinine among its analytes.
- You want hepatitis serology on the same requisition as your routine chemistry and hematology orders.
Specimen collection
- Container: SST, as listed on the TLS requisition and hematology panel list.
- Order of draw: Serum (red/SST) follows sterile (blood culture) and citrate (light blue) tubes. Drawing out of sequence lets tube additives carry over.
- Volume and stability: Not specified here. Call 248.800.6626 for current requirements.
Collection guides are available for the tests we offer, and we provide the library to partner facilities at no cost.
Understanding the report
The panel reports the four analytes listed above. Interpretation of reactive or non-reactive results rests with the ordering clinician. For a sample report layout, contact the lab at 248.800.6626.
Why order it from Total Lab Solutions
- One requisition, one lab. Panels, 90+ individual blood tests, molecular and toxicology testing run through one workflow at 1250 Stephenson Hwy, Ste 200, Troy, MI.
- Defined turnaround. Blood results are reported 24 to 48 hours from sample receipt.
- Accredited facility. CLIA-certified (CLIA #23D2265459) and CAP-accredited.

Frequently asked questions
What markers are included in your hepatitis panel, and can we customize the components for HAV, HBV, and HCV?
The panel (HP) includes Hepatitis A Antibody IgM, Hepatitis B Surface Antigen, Hepatitis B Core Antibody IgM and Hepatitis C Antibody. The panel itself is fixed. If you need a different configuration, our requisition lists individual SST tests you can order separately: Hepatitis A Total Ab (HAV), Hepatitis B Core IgM (HBCORE), Hepatitis B Surface Ab (HBSAB), Hepatitis B Surface Ag (HBSAG) and Hepatitis C Antibody (AHCV). Note that the individual HAV test is a total antibody assay, while the panel uses HAV IgM.
What is the standard turnaround time for hepatitis panel results, and do you offer STAT or priority processing?
Blood results are reported 24 to 48 hours from when we receive the sample. We have no documented STAT or priority option for this panel. Call 248.800.6626 to discuss urgent needs.
What specimen type, collection requirements, and handling instructions apply to hepatitis panel testing?
The specimen is blood collected in an SST. Draw serum tubes in the CLSI-recommended order, after sterile and citrate tubes. Volume and stability details are not listed here, so confirm them with the lab at 248.800.6626 before collection.
Which ICD-10 codes and medical necessity documentation typically support insurance coverage for a hepatitis panel?
We do not publish ICD-10 or CPT code guidance on this page. Medical necessity documentation should reflect the clinical indication in your record. For billing questions, contact the lab at 248.800.6626.
How should clinicians interpret reactive or indeterminate hepatitis panel results, and what reflex or confirmatory testing do you offer?
Interpretation should follow your clinical judgment and current guidelines, in the context of the patient’s presentation. We have no documented reflex protocol for this panel. Individual hepatitis markers, including HBV Surface Ab and HAV Total Ab, can be ordered on the requisition for follow-up. Call 248.800.6626 to discuss confirmatory options.
